Mới đây, người phiên dịch cũ của Dortmund là Massimo Mariotti vừa tiết lộ thông tin khá thú vị liên quan đến Dembele. Ngoài việc đảm nhận vai phiên dịch viên ở Dortmund, Mariotti còn là người chịu trách nhiệm giúp Dembele thích nghi tại nước Đức, nên vì thế ông hiểu rất rõ ngôi sao người Pháp. Trên Goal & SPOX, Mariott kể tường tận việc Dembele đình công với Dortmund nhằm đạt được ý nguyện đầu quân cho Barcelona vào 2 năm trước.

"Mọi người đã đến gặp tôi và hỏi Dembele đang ở đâu nhưng tôi cũng có biết gì. Tôi đã cố liên lạc với cậu ta và họ hàng cậu ta nhưng bất thành. Trong 3 ngày đó, họ biến mất dạng khiến chúng tôi không thể liên lạc được. Bằng cách nào đó, tôi có dự cảm cậu ta không còn muốn ở lại Dortmund nữa nên tôi tìm đến nhà và biết được cậu ta đã cùng mẹ về Pháp vào buổi sáng."

"Ousmane đã thực sự đi cả đêm và tôi là người duy nhất có thể liên lạc với cậu ta sau đó. Tôi bảo với cậu ta là nên quay lại vì cậu ta hiểu rõ Dortmund mà, cần phải hành xử chuyên nghiệp rồi cùng bàn bạc về tất cả mọi thứ. Tuy nhiên, tôi nhận ra mọi thứ đã quá trễ."

Nhiều nguyên nhân chỉ rõ Dembele vì cảm thấy cô đơn tại nước Đức nên muốn rời Dortmund, Mariotti đã bác bỏ khả năng này.
